The Cooperage – Grimsby

The Project

After laying derelict for 60 years, a former Victorian brewery which had been set for demolition is undergoing a £1.8m transformation, into twenty luxurious, one and two bedroom apartments and two additional completely new townhouses.

Aimed at owner-occupiers in Grimsby, The Cooperage is located in a town that has reinvented itself as a hub for new industries and is currently the subject of a major regeneration programme.

Our team at SBR Refurbishment is delighted to be working on this project alongside the developer, Church Lane Humberston Ltd and Eznat Architecture and Development.

The Building

The building was named The Cooperage after the Cooper’s shop where ale casks were manufactured and then later beer was brewed to supply the local area for almost 100 years. It retains original features including; exposed brick on the internals, large wooden horse-drawn dray doors and feature windows. Overall, the design reflects the original architecture and heritage of the property.

Work on the renovation has been extensive – we initially raised the ground floor by more than a metre to avoid flood risk, replaced the full roof and we also restored the steel girders that had been part of the original construction 118 years ago.

As a construction firm, SBR Refurbishment is at the forefront of the eco heating market and The Cooperage is the first building to be installed with our state-of-the-art radiant heat system. It solves a common problem in residential and commercial buildings that is caused by old-fashioned heating systems which dissipate warmth unevenly throughout the area of the building.

Instead, our product is concealed within the plasterboard and heat is absorbed by walls, furnishings and human bodies, where the heat is retained much more effectively than being projected into the air. Watch this space for our official launch, this is going to be huge for eco heating.

SBR Refurbishment is managing the full project, from construction to decoration and fit out. The show apartment is ready for viewings with Lovelle Bacons Estate Agents and completion is due for early 2020.
